You claim to want to protect the public yet you, as a lawmaker, work to abuse those who have committed offenses in the past. You obviously support ex-post-facto laws, and operate to circumvent the plain and ordinary meanings of the words in our state and federal constitutions. Will you please take a look into the facts concerning sex offenders? They are the least likely to re-offend once apprehended.
Mr. Attorney General:
You also claim to want to protect the public, yet you push for the enactment of ex-post-fact laws that do in fact constitute additional punishments for ex offenders. Would you please look into the state's actual recidivism rates for sexual offenders? I'm sure you'll find the number very low.
Mr. President:
For many years you have been advocating for "tough on crime." You especially dislike sex crimes. That's understood, but many of your colleagues have been touting false data in order to pass ex-post-facto legislation against "former" sex offenders. Rather than dealing with the problem before it happens we are wasting millions of tax dollars on laws that are ineffective and wasteful. Can we do something about the sex offender registries please? Can we get rid of them?

Ricky and Amanda met at an Iowa teen club on a Saturday night in December of 2005. Ricky was 16 and Amanda told him she was nearly the same age. They got to talking, learned they were from the same town outside the area and hit it off. They started dating and had sex on two occasions, definitely not the right thing for kids that age to do, but not uncommon. It ended when Amanda told Ricky's mother she was only 14 and asked her not to reveal this to Ricky. Actually, she was 13.
"The cop asked me, did you have sex with her? And, I said twice. He said sign this statement and I signed it. Soon as I got done signing it, he said, sorry to let you know, she's only 13," said Ricky.
Ricky's mother, who has recently gone blind, met with the girl's parents.
