Ride for their Lives... - Brochurel
2010.09.08 02:57:02

www.saljournal.com/news/story/theirlives-9-1-10

Is this ride so bogus, that they actually only ride bicycles up to the final location from say a mile away? How do they have a rally in St Louis yesterday, Chicago just the day before, Buffalo the day before that, Pittsburgh just before that, and clear across Missouri today for a rally in Kansas City tomorrow? Are the bicycles just for looks. This thing is so smelly that I think corruption leaks from the top all the way down through.

I think that they watched how Laura Brook's campaign (Florida), worked a couple of months ago where many if not over half of the miles were not walked at all but in fact were ridden in the support RV. My guess is the same thing is happening here. This is only about money. No one is making a major sacrifice actually riding their bicycle clear across the country for this cause. Lundsford himself may be trailering his Harley for many portions of this trip.

Media at these rallies should be asked to look into this. The impression they are selling is that they are riding bicycles across the country for this fund raiser.

Feel free to print all thew brochures you need.

ACLU of Ohio produces major report on prison growth and problems

ACLU of Ohio produces major report on prison growth and problems

As detailed in this article from the Columbus Dispatch, which is headlined "ACLU: Ohio prisons in crisis: Senators of both parties agree that system is costly, overcrowded," the ACLU has a new and timely report on Ohio's prison costs and problems. Here is how the Dispatch article gets started:

The American Civil Liberties Union and state Sens. Nina Turner, a Cleveland Democrat, and Bill Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican, are at odds on many issues. But the unlikely trio joined forces yesterday to pitch enactment of reforms to heal Ohio's "overcrowded, overused and underfunded" prison system.

"We are at a crisis in the state of Ohio," said James Hardiman, Ohio ACLU legal director, in releasing "Reform Cannot Wait," a report examining the cost and impact of prison incarceration and spending from 1991 to the present.

The report summarized the findings of other reports over nearly two decades and reached the same conclusions: Ohio sends far too many people to prison, spends an inordinate amount of money on adult and youth prisons, and has done little to reduce crime and recidivism....

Seitz said the state's 1996 "truth-in-sentencing" law failed miserably, largely because lawmakers added dozens of tough-on-crime sentence "enhancements" that increased the overall average time served instead of reducing it as intended. "We created layer after layer of additional sentences," he said.

Seitz is the sponsor of Senate Bill 22, which would funnel some low-level, nonviolent offenders to community treatment programs and give offenders time off their sentences for successfully participating in education and treatment programs behind bars. It would initially save about $13.7 million in operating costs, but it would help avoid billions in spending if it prevents the state from having to build new prisons because of severe overcrowding, he said.

The ACLU of Ohio's press release about its report is available here, and the full 20-page report titled "Reform Cannot Wait" is available at this link.

Sex offenders find home, fresh start in Oklahoma City mobile home park

Sex offenders find home, fresh start in Oklahoma City mobile home park

9-5-2010 Oklahoma:

The Rev. David Nichols started Hand Up Ministries in 1996 with the intention of helping convicted felons get a fresh start. It has since evolved to help mostly sex offenders who have no other place to go.

There is an unusual warning posted outside a common-looking mobile home park in southeast Oklahoma County.

It reads "No women or children allowed past this point," in large, red assertive letters, as if on the other side of the gate exists a danger as deadly as toxic waste or an atomic bomb.

Thinking The Worst First - Lenore Skenazy

Thinking The Worst First

Hi Readers — Let’s take a vow: Let us vow to see men and women as decent until proven otherwise. Let’s vow to interpret their deeds as non-malicious, until proven otherwise. And let us vow not to assume the worst first. Here’s why:

Dear Free-Range Kids:  You’re always talking about how its a real shame men are so often assumed to be predators, to the point that they hesitate to help a kid in need for fear they will be accused of having ill intent. A friend of mine told me something along those lines that is even more disturbing.

Mark Lunsford: RIDE FOR THEIR WALLETS!

Ride For Their Wallets

Looks like Mark Lunsford has cooked up yet another Get Rich Quick Scheme (TM). As a charter member of yet another group, the "Surviving Parents Coalition," Inc., Lunsford is a part of the "Ride For Their Lives," coming to a major city near you. So what is the purpose, exactly? Well it is pretty simple. Read it for yourself:

Ride for their Lives..Or Their Wallets Brochure
 cfcoklahoma.org/New_Site/images/fbfiles/files/RideForTheirLives.pdf

COMMENT: So let me get this straight. The purpose of "The Ride" is to raise a million bucks or more so Lunsford can have cocktails with Congressmen who already blindly support his legislation? Does it really cost THAT much to hang around in DC for a few days? I only spent $500 for a five day conference in DC back in 1996 when I was in college and that included my airfare and my hotel stay, and a couple of souvenirs. Damn, inflation is something else.

Are sex offenders the bait, to get public attention?

Are sex offenders the bait, to get public attention?

8-28-2010 California:
I am sure folks have heard of what Gov. Schwarzenegger is doing to notify the public when paroled sex offenders do not comply with GPS monitoring. Two of many news reports follows, but there is something most folks do not realize, see my commentary following news reports.
California to notify public if sex offenders flee

SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is ordering corrections officials to alert the public when a sex offender parolee slips away from supervision.

The order Wednesday follows recent incidents in Bakersfield and San Diego County. Parolees there are charged with attacking teenage girls after the felons discarded GPS-linked ankle bracelets that track their movements. Corrections spokesman Gordon Hinkle says the department already notifies law enforcement agencies when parolees disappear.

Hinkle says the department is likely to follow Schwarzenegger's order by posting information about the missing parolees on a public website. He says between 20 and 60 parolees flee in a typical month. He could not immediately say how many of the missing parolees were convicted of sex offenses. ..Source.. by Mercury News.com

New California Website Warns Public When Sex Offenders Bolt

A site to warn the public when sex-offender parolees remove GPS ankle monitors has been created by the California Department of Corrections, according to a statement by the department.

Member of the public can sign up to get email alerts about the parolee violations. Information such as photos, physical descriptions and last known whereabouts are all included in the alerts. The site was created after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger directed the department to notify law enforcement and the media if an offender escapes confinement. Alerts will be updated within hours of the issuance of a warrant.

Law enforcement agencies are already notified by the Department of Justice's Criminal Intelligence and Investigation system alerts. Offender information is located in the Parole Law Enforcement Automated Database System. Those wishing to sign up for the alerts can go to the department's website. ..Source.. by Steve La

This is Sam Marrs from Hulbert, okla.

I am writing this for my Grandson Coty Marrs.

In April of 2007 he ran afoul of the Adam Walsh act.An act written by a confessed sex addict  and a US senator who courts little boys. How can they make laws for our children when no one would want them around their children?

My grandson Cody was at an all-night birthday party for one of his sisters friends when he was 18 years old. According to people at the party, an older woman bought liquor for the attendee’s, including my grandson, and he became intoxicated so a few folks put him in one of the bedrooms to sleep it off. A young lady, age 14, who was being frisky followed him into the room and Cody and the girl admit things went a little too far and they had consensual relations. We do not condone the behaviors of our grandson, nor the others, however we do understand Cody and this young lady shared in consensual relations and there was no force or violence. Basically, two dumb kids being irresponsible but does this make one a monster?

Evidence for penis arousal tests unconvincing; used anyway in youth sex offenders
2010.08.12 20:18:18

B.C. youth sex offenders were subjected to penis arousal tests despite debate about its use and even though a local study published last year conceded ethical concerns and concluded the invasive test was mostly helpful for assessing male sex deviancy with male child victims, not female.
The controversial penile plethysmograph (PPG) device, attached to male genitals to measure erections after offenders aged 12 to 17 are shown and read sexually stimulating material, has been used before and after treatment to measure sexual deviancy and to determine if treatment to suppress arousal has been successful in offenders going through the program at the Youth Forensic Psychiatric Service (YFPS) in Burnaby or Prince George. Most sexual offenders in the study on 132 subjects committed sex crimes against females.

How, or will, law reflect early puberty in both boys and girls? Should laws change? Many questions arise given today's laws about minors, and answers are unlikely to be good given lawmakers HATE-BASED mentality today!

Things That Never Happen

The Counterfactual News Network?

I love this quote from security expert Bruce Schneier:

Remember, if it’s in the news don’t worry about it. The very definition of news is “something that almost never happens.” When something is so common that it’s no longer news — car crashes, domestic violence — that’s when you should worry about it.

The truth of that[1] hit home recently when I saw a news feature on the abduction of a four-year-old girl from her front yard in Missouri. Candlelight vigils, nation-wide amber alert, police blockades where every single car was stopped and questioned, FBI agents swarming the house. I think the expected reaction from parents is “oh my god, I need to be so vigilant, even in my own front yard!” My reaction was the opposite: Wow, this sort of thing really does essentially never happen. Let the kids run free!

I’m saying this without a drop of irony. Stranger abductions just don’t happen. You should worry more about your baby boy dying from complications of circumcision (true). What you should actually worry about are the real killers of kids, like driving and drowning. Speaking of which, here’s a valuable public service announcement about what drowning looks like. (It doesn’t look like drowning.)

By the way, if you didn’t hear the news story about the four-year-old girl, it had a happy ending. She turned up unharmed.

"DON'T YOU THINK SHE'S A LITTLE BIT YOUNG?"

"DON'T YOU THINK SHE'S A LITTLE BIT YOUNG?"

Stephanie Sinclair travelled around rural Afghanistan photographing child brides in 2003. She returned with a series of moving, upsetting portraits of terrified adolescents born into a world of misogynistic duties and suicidal despair.

The question above is one Sinclair asked of a man who had just won someone's daughter in a bet. He replied: "Well, we have a saying out here that if she doesn't fall down when you hit her with your cap, she's old enough to marry."

Take a moment to listen to Sinclair narrate the images in this slideshow from The Economist:

Age of Consent: the Unknown Facts

Recently, my son Ricky, his wife and I appeared on the John Stossel show airing on Fox Business News regarding sex laws.

We flew to New York City with high hopes that we were going to be given a chance to educate America’s youths and their families. Daily we are contacted by parents who are horrified that their son or daughter is facing a life as a registered sex offender over consensual relationships.

FBI's Latest Power Grab Is a Bold and Unnecessary Move

8-4-2010 National:

What do the ACLU, the former director of the NSA and a tech industry lawyer all have in common (and this is not a joke)? They believe that the government's recent request to let the FBI get Americans' internet use records in national security investigations without going to court, and without any suspicion of wrongdoing, is a huge expansion of authority that would open floodgates of sensitive information to the FBI.

ALERT: Advocates Heads UP, but proceed w/caution, which court has original jurisdiction?

8-2-2010 National:
Folks, today there is a story about the illegal immigrants case in Arizona, but thats not the issue folks should target, read the story closely: Which court has jurisdiction for the Parties in Interest? Thats the issue!

Before the story a word of caution, if you figure out what I am eluding to, and wish to file a case pro per (i.e. without a lawyer), DO NOT do that, because if the high court dismisses the case with prejudice, then you will have blocked the issues for other more knowledgeable folks, LAWYERS! This movement needs QUALIFIED LAWYERS presenting issues, and NO ONE else! Sorry for being so blunt, but its true...

With that said, on to the Arizona case article:

Missing Sex Offenders: Numbers Grow According to Senate Committee

8-1-2010 Washington DC:
In a Senate Report (111-229) supporting S-3636 "Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2011" we find this new FEAR-BASING comment from the Senate Committee on Appropriations:
Sexual Offender Apprehension- The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-248) gives the U.S. Marshals Service the authority to treat as fugitives convicted sex offenders who fail to register. It also directs the marshals to assist jurisdictions in locating and apprehending these individuals. There are roughly 135,000 non-compliant offenders in the United States.

I’m Off for a Day on the Town with a “Sex Offender” (And His Mom!)
2010.07.27 22:13:22

I’m Off for a Day on the Town with a “Sex Offender” (And His Mom!)

Hi Readers! I’m very psyched because tomorrow I am going to meet a young man named Ricky and his mom, Mary Duval. Ricky is a Tier 3 Predator Status Sex Offender, on the list for life. Or at least he was, for almost four years.

How he finally got off that list this year is a story of a mom’s tenacity. How he got ON it is a story of a country that has passed sex offender laws that just don’t mesh with what we need. We NEED to keep child rapists away from our kids. We HAVE laws that make our children into rapists. Case in point?

Ricky.

When Ricky was 16 he had consensual sex twice with a girl he met at a teen club. She told him she was 15. Turns out she was just 13. Long story short: Even though the girl and her parents did not want Ricky prosecuted, he was. He admitted the “crime,” and thus he ended up one of America’s nearly 1 million registered sex offenders.

I’ve written about his story, but never with the same frankness and detail as on the website he and his mom put together, Rickyslife.com .  The story is so outrageous and the mom has been so good at bringing attention to the issue of teens branded as predators for having sex with other teens, that the media have paid attention. Now the mother and son are coming to New York from Oklahoma to tape an episode of John Stossel’s show. It’ll air later in the week.

Tomorrow, though, I’m showing them the sights. (Well, showing them to Ricky and describing them to his mom, who recently went blind from Marfan Syndrome. Did that stop her? Clearly not.)

So no posts from me Tuesday. I’ll be on the town with a mom and son I can’t wait to meet. — Lenor
